This lamp is inspired by the shape of Clove (Cengkeh), was known as the most valuable early spice originated from Moluccas, Indonesia (The Spice Islands). The spices trail is the history of Indonesia itself. During 16th century, the spice trade powered the global economy as much as the trade of crude oil today. Through this lamp design, the designer try to provoke the memories of indonesia’s glorious age.

Pertelon

Rattan Table Lamp Series

This set of lighting can be considered as “Experimental Design”. It rarely starts by drawing concepts and sketches with these kind of designs. Getting to know the rattan first and performing various experiments with it are the most part of the process. At one point, “kerfing” is used in the material exploration. The form of these lamps are mainly Nirmana (absence of meaning). It really just basic forms, but knowing that it’s made from rattan through unusual approach in its making certainly gives away some sort of new character in old material.
